Any book, made for the time you actually have.

Tell leef how long you’ve got and it cuts the book into Reels sized to that slot, ending each one on a real narrative pause rather than wherever the chapter happens to fall. It learns your reading speed as you go, so a ten-minute read stays a ten-minute read. Where the author already left a good break nearby, leef takes theirs.

A custom keyboard that replaces yours, so the French you’re learning is wherever you type rather than in an app you have to switch to. It checks as you go — the gender of a noun and the adjectives that have to agree with it, or the conjugation you were about to get wrong. It runs on the device with no network, which is the only way something sitting in your keyboard is bearable.

Six things we hold to.

Not a manifesto so much as the reasons our tools come out the way they do, and why they take as long as they take.

One thing, all the way down

We’d rather master the core of a tool than widen it. Feature lists are easy; depth is the hard part, and it’s the part people can feel.

Attention isn’t ours to spend

No streaks, no nudges, no loops built to pull you back. If you close the app having done what you came for, that’s the app working.

Some friction is the point

Making a hard thing feel effortless often usually means the hard thing didn’t happen. We smooth what is merely awkward and leave what is genuinely the work.

Typography is the interface

Most of what our tools do is put words in front of you. How those words are set isn’t decoration — it’s most of the design decision.

Your work stays yours

Files on your own device, exports that open anywhere, and as little of your material on our servers as we can manage. Usually none of it.

Long timelines

We work outside client cycles, which means things arrive when they’re right rather than when a quarter ends. It’s slower. It’s the whole point.

Obake Studio builds software for reading, writing, listening and learning. We’re independent, we sell our tools outright rather than by subscription, and we price them for where people actually live: prices are set per country rather than converted, which in many regions is 40–85% below the straight exchange rate.
