How we work

Attention is the material we build with.

Learning isn’t something that happens to you while you scroll. It’s built, deliberately, out of the one resource nobody has enough of. Everything below follows from taking that seriously.

The short version

Most software is designed to capture your attention, because that’s what it’s paid for. Ours is designed to hand it back to you pointed at something. That single difference decides almost every argument we have about a feature.

It means our tools do fewer things. It means they take longer to arrive. It means we sometimes leave in effort that we could have designed away, because the effort was the thing you came for. We think that trade is worth stating out loud rather than discovering later.

Six things we hold to

The long version.

01

One thing, all the way down

We reject feature bloat, which is easy to say and expensive to mean. One tool executed to real depth is the studio standard. We master the core mechanics before we widen the surface, and most of the ideas we like don’t make it in.

02

Attention isn’t ours to spend

No streaks, no nudges, no loops engineered to pull you back tomorrow. We design for focus rather than for capture. If you close the app having done what you came for, that’s the app working, not a retention problem.

03

Some friction is the point

Speed and convenience are often the enemies of depth. Making a hard thing feel effortless usually means the hard thing didn’t happen. We smooth what is merely awkward and leave what is genuinely the work.

04

Typography is the interface

Clear thinking needs clear letters. Most of what our tools do is put words in front of you, so how those words are set isn’t decoration — it’s the larger part of the design decision, and we treat every glyph as one.

05

Your work stays yours

Files on your own device, exports that open in anything, and as little of your material on our servers as we can manage — usually none of it. If you stop using our software you should leave with everything you made in it.

06

Long timelines

We work outside client cycles, so things arrive when they’re right rather than when a quarter ends. Excellence is never hurried. It’s slower than the industry, and it’s the whole point of doing it this way.

What that costs you, and what it doesn’t

Tools are meant to outlast the fashion they were built in.

We build software the way you would build something physical: to be repaired rather than replaced, and to still make sense in ten years. That’s why we sell our tools outright instead of renting them to you, and why a version you’ve bought keeps working whatever we do next.

It’s also why our prices are set per country rather than converted from sterling. In many regions that’s 40–85% below the straight exchange rate. Software should be affordable where you actually live.
